Artworks: Big Rapids Area Arts and Humanities

Mecosta Council for the Arts with its community center, Artworks, has merged with the West Central Humanities Council to create a new organization -- Artworks: Big Rapids Area Arts and Humanities.

Artworks Center and gallery in Big Rapids has a three-fold mission: offer art experiences to their geographically disadvantaged populations in Mecosta and Osceola counties; provide space for local artists to exhibit and sell as well as be employed as art teachers; and provide a community space for performance and presentation opportunities in all areas of the arts.

Artworks is involved with drama, arts, dance, lectures, performance in music, poetry, etc. They seek underserved adults and children through new and exisiting collaborations to provide uplifting, enjoyable experiences with the arts. Recent projects include the creation of a community pottery studio, an off loom weaving project, Celebration of Writers, Art Attack, a piano recital, Art Academy for K-12 gifted art students, Art in the Park, created Art Kits free for use by families and organizations, and most recently a state of the art dance studio.

Collaborators include Big Rapids Public Schools, Ferris State University, Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District, Mecosta County Community Foundation and Hope Network.
